Lord of the rings tattoos

Updated on January 18, 2012

My lord of the Rings Tattoos

I am so thankful to the very skilled artists that help me to create my theme of Lord of the rings tattoos. I have now got seven pieces of work (with more to follow).

I only started to get my tattoos at the age of 44 (two years ago) because i thought why not! and I felt that the things that artists were now doing with tattoos was much more artisitic than it used to be.

I respect people who have a whole range of different tattoos but for me I felt that staying true to a theme was much more important. My theme of course is the Lord of the Rings. I have been a fan of Tolkien for 30 years.

The first tattoo to describe is my Leaf of Lothlorien brooch, the brooch that all the fellowship wear on the cloaks that were given to them by Galadriel. This tattoo is on the outside of my lower right leg. Rogerio Silva who did the tattoo was a really cool guy and he was quite quick. I got this tattoo on a trip to Las Vegas in 2009.

The next tattoo to describe is the work created for me by Hannah Aitchison from Chicago and star of LA ink. Hannah is absolutely fantastic, really easy to talk too and very attractive. I got the work from Hannah when she was a guest artist at New Wave Tattoo in London (twice) and once at Doncaster tattoo Jam in 2009 and 2010.

My tattoos by Hannah are a half leg at the bottom of my left leg. Hannah did Aragorn, Arwen and the Evenstar for me. I get stopped a lot by people admiring the art, which is nice of them. My Arwen tattoo won an award at the North Lakes tattoo convention 2010, which i was very proud of. It is also featured in a tattoo reference book (Body art 4) which was cool. Here is a link to the book. http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndSearch/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=9781907232619

The next tattoo to describe is my Lord of the Rings Sleeve created for me by Adam Collins who was really cool and is a fantastic artist. Adam works with Lal Hardy at New Wave Tattoo studio in London, UK. It is a highly respected studio, Lal is a legend in the Industry in the UK.

The sleeve (left arm) took around 50 hours to create over 7 different days. It was started in August 2010 and completed at the end of December 2010.

Featured In the sleeve are :

Frodo Baggins, Sam Gamgee, Legolas, Lurtz (the uraki that killed boromir in the film), Saruman (with his hand over the palantir of orthanc with the eye in it), Smeagol, the phial of Galadriel (which Galadriel gives to frodo as a "light in dark places, when all other lights go out), mount doom, the shards of Narsil, sting and the Horn of Gondor.

I get stopped quite a lot with people admiring the art which is very nice of them.

My next tattoo is my Initial R in elvish script. This was done for me by a local artist in my hometown in the UK. I don't have a photograph of it. This tattoo is on the outside of my right leg below my Leaf of Lothlorien Tattoo.

My next tattoo is the Gates of Moria created for me by Alicia from a tattoo Studio in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia. I don't have a photograph of this tattoo. This tattoo is on the back of my calf on my right leg.

My sixth tattoo is Narya (the ring of fire), this is one of the three elven rings and it is cared for by Gandalf.

This tattoo was created for my by Jo Harrison from Modern Body Art from Birmingham, UK. Jo is really cool and a terrific artist. The tattoo is on the outside of my right ankle.

Jo did this tattoo for me when I met her at the Paris Tattoo convention in 2010.

My seventh tattoo is Gandalf the Grey. This was created for me by Chris Garver from Love Hate Tattoo studio, Miami, USA and star of Miami Ink.

Chris is super cool and one of the best artists in the world. He is just amasing. It took Chris 5 hours to create this tattoo (all in one sitting). I got this tattoo in 2009 during a trip to Florida. I was amased that Chris has a free slot to do my tattoo as i only enquired if he was free 3 weeks before i went out.

The tattoo is on the outside of my right arm. This tattoo is featured in a tattoo reference book which is really cool. Here is a link to the book:

I also get stopped a lot by people who think the art is amasing.

Some thoughts about my tattoos

My career to date has been in business and industry and more lately as a business consultant. Often I have to coach and facilitate groups of Directors and business leaders. Whether i agree with it or not it is just not appropriate for me to have my tattoos on show whilst i am facilitating a workshop or board meeting. So i decide to get all my tattoos in places that would not show when i wear a suit and tie.

This also gives me the choice of whether to show or not my tattoos when i and out and about and in other places. I really do like to show my art most of the time, but sometimes its nice to keep them hidden and just know that they are there for me.
